Jest to polietylen o bardzo wysokiej masie cząsteczkowej oferującym maksymalną wytrzymałość połączoną z minimalną wagą:
- najwyższa wytrzymałość w stosunku do wagi
- bardzo dobrą odpornością na otarcia
- doskonała odporność na zmęczenia materiału
- dobra odporność na ściskanie
- mała charakterystyka rozciągania
- ograniczona odporność na temperaturę (temperatura topnienia 150°C)
- maksymalna temperatura pracy 70°C
- gęstość włókna 0,97 : ruchoma
Mała rozciągliwość lin jest bardzo korzystna w przypadkach ograniczonego miejsca do poruszania gdzie ewentualna siła dynamiczna powstała w wyniku rozciągania może być bardzo niebezpieczna np. do wyciągarek, dla holowników i przy cumowaniu statków z ciężkim wyposażeniem.
Liny z włókien HMPE szczególnie są polecane tam gdzie mała waga i łatwa obsługa mają duże znaczenie, również w transporcie wodnym do szybkiego i bezpiecznego cumowania oraz do holowania.
